GENERAL

How did P4H Global begin?

P4H Global, formerly known as Projects for Haiti, began in 2011. The organization was founded by Bertrhude Albert, Ph.D. and Priscilla Zelaya, Ph.D. Check out the following resources to learn more about how P4H Global got its start!

Where does P4H Global work?

P4H Global has worked in Cap-Haitien since 2011, which is the second largest city in Haiti. P4H’s conferences are based out of the P4H Training Center in the Cite Jerusalem neighborhood of Cap-Haitien. While our Training Center and office headquarters are in Cap-Haitien, our local partnerships have allowed our trainings to extend in all 10 of Haiti’s Departments.

P4H Global does have plans to expand to other countries for educational development in the future. Stay connected through our various channels (social media, newsletter) to learn about our latest updates.

What is “Sustainable Development” and why is it so important?

Sustainable Development (SD) is a term used to describe long-term partnerships for the purpose of community advancement. Effective SD is accomplished through continual Needs Assessment of host communities and aid focused on training and empowerment. SD is the foundation of our vision to Redefine Aid. Development is not accomplished through handouts. Development occurs when organizations and individuals commit to long-term solutions focused on training up local community members. Aid which is only focused on giving things and supplies can lead to dependence and a crippling of local economies. SD leads to independence and increased amounts of dignity in local community members.

I’m interested in starting my own nonprofit, where do I begin?

We are always elated to hear of individuals pursuing their passions and desiring to make a difference in the world! If you’re interested in starting your own nonprofit, follow these steps to get started today.

1.   Know Your “Why”

Take some time to reflect on what you want to see changed in this world. Understand those issues deeply and get to know why your organization will exist. Many times we cannot address a larger worldwide problem such as “worldwide poverty”, but we can focus our attention on making a difference in subset populations affected by poverty. Get to know more about issues that move you deeply. Understand what role you and your organization can play in bringing about a solution. Write down your “why” – why will your organization exist.

2.   Identify Partners in Local Communities

Long-lasting development can only be accomplished through strong partnerships with local community members. They understand the issue deeply and will be vital to helping you identify strengths and needs in the community. Build relationships with these individuals, your success is dependent on working together.

3.   Work on Your Organizational Structure

Get to know the ins and outs of nonprofit organizations. Create your mission statement, name your organization, and identify individuals for your board and staff. Identify what your organization does and think about intricate processes to accomplish your goals. It is helpful to work backwards in this step. Always ask for feedback – you want to make sure your mission is clear for others to understand.

4.   Get Your Paperwork in Order

States vary in their requirements for nonprofit organizations. Get to know your states regulations. Decide if you want to become a tax-exempt organization, if you decide you want your organization to become a 501(c)3 nonprofit, fill out the necessary paperwork with the IRS. There are costs associated with various filing requirements, be sure to know what you need to pay and fundraise if necessary.

5. Enroll in the P4H Master Class!
